Liger Management Group (LMG) is a boutique firm located in Queenstown, specializing in professional advisory services to the Liger family suite of businesses – Liger Trading NZ, Liger Holdings and Liger Leadership Academy NZ.

 

LMG provides leadership, accounting, financial modeling, market analysis and analytics, communication and HR services to Liger’s diverse portfolio of start-up businesses operating in the fields of electronic trading, hospitality, renewable energy, property design, and not-for-profit project-based learning.

LMG is currently seeking both junior and senior associates to join in our quest to explore investment opportunities by analyzing companies and business plans, conducting due diligence, as well as doing ad hoc research on new and exciting areas of technology and innovation.  We are looking for people who ‘work hard and play hard’, who enjoy being part of a pioneering and successful company, and who also enjoy spending time outdoors with friends and family. ​

Our Venture Analysts are engaged in the discovery and analysis of investment opportunities. Working directly with our Investment Manager, this role helps drive bottom-line performance on all metrics.

Key responsibilities for our Venture Analyst role:

  • Undertake targeted research in order to support the development of a pipeline of new investment opportunities.

  • Undertake initial screening and assessment of new investments through both a macro and a micro lens.

  • Analyze the performance of potential portfolio companies, and their financial and social impact

  • Lead the due diligence process - performing market research and financial analysis, including review of historic and prospective financial information for current and prospective industries and investments.

  • Create investment papers for review by our investment team, and financial models to enhance return on investment of projects.

  • Identify ongoing business improvement opportunities for individual portfolio companies and the portfolio as a whole.

  • Develop an investment policy aligned to the company strategy and an investment criterion for evaluating prospective projects.

  • Support the investment team during the acquisition process. Prepare investment memoranda and supporting materials for investment committee review.  

  • Participate in special projects.

The successful candidate will have the following experience and attributes: 

  • Track record of high academic and professional achievement.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting. Master’s in the same desirable.

  • 2+ years’ experience in financial analysis/corporate finance in banking, consulting or similar. Experience in real estate investing, asset management, and/or financing desirable.

  • Ability to understand and evaluate company financial statements and accounts; strong financial analysis skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; must demonstrate skills in communication and presentation; demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Energetic and enthusiastic individual with the ability to work on their own initiative with minimal supervision with an ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and have the willingness to take on additional responsibility.

  • Willingness to reside in Queenstown.

  • New Zealand permanent resident or citizen.
